Note from the Board:

Families,

The Caldwell West Caldwell Soccer Club is excited to announce our tryout dates and details for the 2023/2024 season.  It's a very exciting time for the club as we've seen many teams enjoy different forms of success, as well as record numbers in our youth development program.

We also have some exciting news to share as we move into next season in terms of our Club team’s structure and commitment.  After much conversation, deliberation, and research, we have decided to move to a Fall-Focused approach.  Our current model requires children to participate in both the Fall and Spring seasons. While commitment to the Fall season will remain mandatory, and soccer should be players’ main sport of focus this season, we will now allow our teams and individual families to pick their Spring commitment level. Essentially, at the time of tryouts, families will be asked a variety of questions, including their intention to play just Fall or both the Fall and Spring.  While this information will not be factored into the decision-making process for team formation, it will allow us to understand particular age groups commitment level as we move into the Spring.

This change in model was not made arbitrarily, as the consensus of the board and other soccer club members was that children should have the opportunity to play other traditional Spring sports while not having to feel obligated and forced to continue travel soccer into the non-traditional Spring season. We feel that this opt-in model for the Spring will allow for teams to continue into this season if they like, but also allow other children to continue their athletic goals in sports, such as baseball, lacrosse, and AAU basketball. After we have an understanding of peoples’ commitment and form teams, we then have several months of preparation to either continue with a team business as usual into the Spring or understand our need to backfill a few roster spots.  If the majority of a given team cannot commit to the Spring, we can also give families enough notice to find another option.

More information on this will be available at tryouts but we wanted to be upfront and clear about this change as early as possible.  We feel this model will attract more families to travel soccer, allow for Spring flexibility, and continue our mission to give the residents of Caldwell and West Caldwell the best youth soccer experience possible.
